The acoustic bass guitar (sometimes abbreviated as the acoustic bass or initialised as ABG) is a bass instrument with a hollow wooden body, similar to, but usually larger than, that of a steel-string acoustic guitar. Acoustic bass guitars usually have four strings, tuned E-A-D-G, an octave below the lowest four strings of a 6-string guitar, as do traditional electric bass guitars and double basses.

Most acoustic basses have pickups, either magnetic or piezoelectric, or both, so that they can be amplified by a bass amp, as it can sometimes be difficult to hear an acoustic bass without an amplifier, even in settings with other acoustic instruments.

Modern virtual VST instruments allow to emulate the sound of acoustic bass guitar with all the smallest details and nuances.
