The New Forgotten Voices - Cait
|
Description
Cait McWhir, originally hailing from Ireland, draws her inspiration from almost 20 years of exploration with Indian, Balkan, Middle-Eastern & Celtic vocal styles. She has an incredible versatility allowing her to freely cross between conventional folklore to ancient Sanskrit chants, Vedic mantras to free improvisation in self-made languages.
The New Cait is constructed from over a thousand different vocal phrases covering over 15 hours of recorded material. The phrases are divided into a variety of categories varying from some of the oldest songs known to man from the ancient Sanskrit chants to free improvisational phrases. The library has specific patches such as Balkan, Lullaby, Sanskrit Chants, Witch Chants and so forth. In addition, some phrases in the library were recorded 2-3 times, which allows for a more broad type of vocal sound by layering the same phrase two or three times.
The programming allows you to sculpt- and morph phrases by adjusting the mod-wheel and pitch bender. The mod-wheel controls the sample starting point, so users can trigger off-set anywhere they want in the phrases. The pitch bender allows you to time-stretch/compress the phrase. Special key-switching also allows you to adjust to root pitch of all phrases in a patch by up to +/- 3 semitones. The combination between sample off-set control, root pitch control and time-stretch/compression allows users to seamlessly morph different phrases together, which brings endless possibilities for creating new phrases.
In addition, Cait contains a bonus set of over 40 unique vocal ambiences made by Steven Tavaglione (Instrumentalist and Sound Designer; Wall-E, American Beauty, CSI, Supernatural and 100s other movies/shows/games). All the ambiences are made from Cait source material, so they seamlessly blend with her voice and are amazing for instant scoring. Note: All demos (see below) are played live using one vocal ambience and one set of vocals pr. demo, so they literally took 3-5 minutes to compose. So what you hear is what you get.
Update: Cait McWhir is also featured on the double Grammy award-winning album: “Calling All Dawns” by composer Christopher Tin. Chris discovered Cait through the 8DIO Forgotten Voices library.
